STEP 8: ‘Reduce’ The Text In Your Mind Map
The biggest mistake you can make with mind mapping is to get carried away with writing slabs of text on each branch. Although your mind map is still useful (because the power of mind mapping comes from the fact that it is a visual representation of text), you will be massively limiting the impact your mind map could have on you or your readers if you don’t ‘reduce’ the text in your mind map.

STEP 3: Briefly ‘Reorganise’ Your Mind Map
After you’ve dumped a fair amount of your content onto your mind map, or even as you go, quickly reorganize your mind map on the screen to ensure your mind map is easily readable and ‘makes sense’. This will help prompt you with even more ideas for additional branches. Read the rest of this entry »

STEP 2: DUMP Content Onto Branches
Rapidly insert (or “dump”) all you content into your mind map.
Start with your high level branch concepts (ie, Level 1 Branches) to your central theme.
With computer mind mapping software type out your Level 1 Branch concepts quickly. You can always go back and move them around once you have a better picture of the ‘whole’ and what you’re trying to achieve.

Mind mapping is based on “laws” (first documented by Dr Buzan) that should be followed in full to extract the very best that mind mapping has to offer. With the onset of computer mind mapping software, a number of good software programs have automatically incorporated a number of the critical mind mapping laws into their functionality.
